GROOVER Review: BEYOND THE DARKNESS ‘Funeral Of Love’

Share This:

Belarus metal outfit Beyond The Darkness have sent in their new track Funeral Of Love for us to check out, so here goes!

It seems this song is best served when watching the music video as well, with the scene set as a lone figure climbs into an older-style wooden boat that is taking far too much water.

This scene is accompanied by an extra long musical intro that is both harmonious and dangerous until the deep growly vocals kick in after the one-minute mark.

Frenetic drumming and a swirling guitar lick add a sense of foreboding to the track which ebbs and flows until the introduction of clean vocals which appear to be telling a story.

The harsh vocals re-emerge as the sailor finds land and a dense forest and we follow him on his journey with splatterings of harsh vocals offset by a pulled back and restrained instrumental section as the forestation quickly fades into snow and now our sailor is battling the elements as well.

As the pace quickens so too do the harsh vocals return. The two vocal dynamics work well together and place emphasis on each part of the song as they appear offering a nice contrast of light and dark.

I’m still not sure what the sailor is doing, but he has something wrapped up in his pocket that it appears he is seeking a home for.

It’s a well-constructed and delivered piece of music, with enough in the way of timing and tempo changes to drag the listener through a myriad of emotions and moods. And that is not easy to do.
