Adelaide based genre fans will get a taste of Monster Pictures’ annual Melbourne-based genre film festival Monster Fest this July thanks to the partnership with the GU Film House to present Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow at the GU Film House Adelaide from July 21st to 23rd 2017.

Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow will be a mix of horror-centric highlights from around the globe and will feature some select Australian and Adelaide premieres.

The touring satellite event will open on Friday July 21st with Jonathan Sequeira’s DESCENT INTO MAELSTROM, a rock documentary telling the warts and all story of seminal Aussie punk band Radio Birdman, from their original formation to the present. Followed by Damien Power’s brutal Sundance breakout hit, KILLING GROUND. Both films are currently enjoying significant critical acclaim and will play Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow ahead of their Australian theatrical release.

Saturday the 22nd promises to be the sharkiest day in Australian cinema history with a double bill of CAGE DIVE and 47 METRES DOWN. Both films leave their protagonists stranded and battling for survival in ‘great white’ infested waters when their cage dive adventures go horribly wrong. The weekend will also include a new 4K restoration of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento’s 1977 masterpiece SUSPIRIA and the new 4K Restoration of David Lynch’s TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME, in celebration of the 25th anniversary return of the series to the small screen.

For the true horror buffs, also playing is THE EVIL WITHIN, made by millionaire meth addict, Andrew Getty, heir the Getty oil fortune who reportedly sunk $6 million dollars of his own fortune into the film, only to die before he could finish it and IT STAINS THE SANDS RED which been hailed as the most original zombie film since 28 DAYS LATER.

Also out of Sundance is 78-52, a documentary that takes an unprecedented look at the ‘shower scene from Psycho’, the screen murder that profoundly changed the course of world cinema. It features interviews with film buffs and filmmakers alike—including Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Elijah Wood, Eli Roth, and Peter Bogdanovich amongst many others.

Rounding out the program and closing the Festival is the Australian premiere of THE BAD BATCH, the latest offering from Ana Lily Amirpour (A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT). The film is a love story set in a community of cannibals in a not too distant dystopian future, featuring an all-star cast including Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, Jason Momoa and Giovanni Ribisi.

Monster Fest is also proud to welcome Adelaide’s Flinders University Department of Screen and Media to the event and will be showcasing the work of current students and recent graduates by having their short films play before select features.
