Weeding Out The Lies With WE THE HOLLOW

The phrase “pay your dues” is never more applicable than in the music industry.

Unfortunately, sometimes those dues take what seems like a lifetime to pay off, with some talented and promising outfits throughout history succumbing to defeat before attaining that elusive grail.

While to many it is a cop out, in it’s purest form the statement does make sense.

There is so much involved with being a band that transcends that 45 minutes or so on stage, and the only way to fully grasp and appreciate the trappings of the industry is to learn from within.

“The song itself is about the media and all of the other fake things that you see online or on TV and all the crap that just gets thrown around.”

Scotty McBain

Brisbane noise machine We The Hollow are a band that has certainly had to pay their dues, proving to the music-loving public as well as themselves that they have the necessary attributes to succeed.

The band has ramped things up over the last 12 to 18 months, playing more shows and putting their name and music out there like never before. They have sat on material that would become an EP for much of that time, electing to hold off and fine-tune things until they were completely satisfied with the finished product rather than rush something out for the sake of having released music.

If there is any justice in the horns of the metal Gods then We The Hollow will be rewarded for their patience, with the bands crushing new single Lie To Me scheduled for release on September 2.

It is a precise piece of work from We The Hollow, ticking every visual box of the metal handbook and also entering in a few more of their own in the process.

With their debut EP Self Revelation scheduled to follow on September 16 the future looks bright for We The Hollow, so HEAVY tracked down guitarist Scotty McBain to find out where the band’s future intentions lay.

“The song itself is about the media and all of the other fake things that you see online or on TV and all the crap that just gets thrown around,” he explained of Lie To Me. “Musically, I was going somewhere different with that one. A lot of experimenting with some things I wouldn’t normally do, and it turned out to be this.”

The film clip is a scathing indictment on the current world we live in, highlighting universal disparities, riots, protests and violence through the lens of a news reporter and his daily role in the field.

“What you see in the film clip is exactly what we’re talking about,” McBain nodded. “We’re happy with it and can’t wait to get it out.”

In the full interview, Scotty goes deeper into Lie To Me, runs us through the upcoming EP track by track, tempering your enthusiasm as an emerging artist, taking the next step, future shows and more.

Lie To Me will premiere via HEAVY at 7.30 am AEST on Friday, September 2
