Ne Obliviscaris’ tour of Australia is the dream tour that any band would love to put together. The band have hand-selected the bands that open for them throughout the tour and the result has become a virtual mini-festival. One of those bands on the bill is Colorado based death metal outfit Allegaeon whose current album Apoptosis has won over a legion of new fans.
HEAVY Mag recently caught up with Allegaeon’s vocalist Riley McShane to find out about the tour and their brand new album.
“We’ve toured with Ne Obliviscaris twice before,” says McShane as we chat about how they got added to this awesome line-up. “We’ve done one tour in the US and Canada and one in Europe with them and we just get on super well with those guys. So when they were organising this Australian run they just hit me up directly and said ‘hey would you guys be interested in doing this… here are the details.’ I was obliged to say yes and now here we are just a couple weeks away.”
“Ne Obliviscaris as a band bring something really special to the table,” he explains as talk turns to their touring mates. “They kind of combine and capture that melodic death metal and progressive style so well… I don’t think another band has really done it as well as they have except for maybe early Opeth. They just combine that super evil heaviness with that beautiful melodic section, they can mix clean vocals with screaming and you have the addition of different instruments, with Opeth it was the organ and with Ne Obliviscaris it is things like the violin. I think they have breathed life into a style of metal that hadn’t really been touched before.”
