If you love your stoner rock then chances are you already know that Red Fang are back on their way to this great country. Recently we sat down with Bryan Giles and chatted about things as varied as eating kangaroos and eagles right through to why they don’t get to explore the countries they visit as much as they like… oh and we talked about their music as well.
“I’m a fan of our band and our music,” says Giles laughing when we start talking about how hard it is to pick setlists for shows these days. “I like our songs but we don’t want to play every song, I mean we couldn’t play every song, but we like to make a nice tight set where we aren’t going to bore anybody. So our set lists are constantly changing and I can guarantee that they will probably even change within the tour as well – we like to try and make sure that every album is represented and we like to play the quote and unquote hits – all the songs that people expect us to play because that’s what they want us to play and I get that and we probably end up playing songs that nobody but us really likes as well… so that means you have to suffer through a few to hear the ones that you want to hear – that’s the kickback for us.”
And for all the Red Fang fans out there it sounds like you will have an album on the way fairly soon because Giles quickly admits that things are flowing when it comes to creativity for the band right now as well. “I was actually playing guitar this afternoon,” he says with a laugh. “And I’ve got to tell you that everything was flowing really easily. sometimes you get into this mode of touring and you’re songwriting gets rusty but we are very much getting into that songwriting mode right now, we’ve taken this whole month off to concentrate on songwriting so I would say optimistically that the new album will be out in Spring 2019… I’ve got good riffs right now… good riffs right now, man!”
