PVRS Release ‘Solstice’ From Upcoming Debut Album

Share This:

I’m always wary of reviewing bands with no vowels in their name, purely because if anyone ever asked me about them, I would struggle to pronounce the name, but PVRS and their doom metal sound – all from just two members – is intriguing enough to try nonetheless.

The single, Solstice, taken from their upcoming debut album of the same name, starts with some tasty feedback and reverb before a massively bottom-end heavy intro thrusts you straight into sludge/doom territory as promised.

The song’s first surprise comes in the form of some soft yet deliberate clean vocals that ooze sorrow and pain.

It is a well-structured song so far, not overplaying its hand but not understating its intent as well.

There’s enough going on here to maintain interest, with the empty spaces providing greater effect than had the band tried to fill every void possible with noise.

Some timing changes courtesy of wicked drum chops as a sense of urgency, which gradually folds back into a calming sort of doom underlay that has more than passing moments of intensity.

It is a well-crafted and solid single, definitely providing added incentive to keep tabs on PVRS and their debut album.
