After the debacle that causes the music industry to shut down last year, Brisbane’s Moondoll Festival returns this weekend, June 4, at the Mansfield Tavern, spread over 2 stages and featuring a great selection of rock, punk and metal guaranteed to appeal to music lovers of all tastes.
As part of HEAVY’s ongoing support of Moondoll, we asked some of the bands playing a list of questions to help get you acquainted with the bands before they take the stage.
Today we speak with Kallidad
HEAVY: Moondoll 2022 is nearly upon us. Does it seem surreal that after all of the events of the last 2 years you will finally get to take the stage?
K: Actually we got back onstage as soon as possible. We have been actively touring since September 2021. Lately things have just started feeling “normal” again. It’s going to be so great to play Moondoll!
What does it mean to you to be playing Moondoll?
It means we get to expose our band to hundreds of new people who have never seen us before, who may have totally different musical tastes to us- but we are still confident we can win ’em over! Sharing our unique sound and energy with new audiences is what Kallidad is all about!
It’s a long day of music. What will you be doing to make sure you will still be standing come your set time?
We are actually playing another gig early that afternoon several hundred kilometres away! The average band would shudder.
But don’t forget- we are Kallidad. We are road hardened to the extreme. Plus we don’t get intoxicated at gigs. We are always standing straight no matter what!
Give me your Top 3 Festival survival tips.
Don’t be afraid to be alone if your friends are slowcoaches or wanna do or see something boring
Stay out of the sun
Wear earplugs to protect your ears
Which band – other than yourself – do you think will get up to the most mischief on the day?
Probably all of them. And we will be the little angels off in the corner behaving ourselves.
What song do you think the crowd would want you to play to finish your set?
Wonderwall
What song are you actually going to play?
Our new single “Black Powder” A Pirate themed romp. It rocks!
What one song would you tell festival goers to listen to of yours, if they haven’t heard you play before?
“Black Powder” (make sure you watch the video clip on Youtube!)
Finally, what plans does your band have for the rest of 2022?
Big plans indeed. In August we head over to Europe for a massive three month tour. In the final stages of the year we will probably do a nice quick lap round Australia.
And within a month or two we are about to release our new album – “To Hell and Back”
