Keeping It Real with CITY OF SOULS

Auckland alt-rock outfit City of Souls have already had a career most bands would be envious of.

They have supported the likes of Stone Sour, and Bring Me The Horizon and are making huge waves in their home country – all before even releasing their first album.

With the imminent release of their debut early next year, guitarist Marcus Powell joins us to give the lowdown on what to expect.

“We have a lot of songs on there that have that banging tempo and moshpit vibe”, he said. “I like our diversity and that our songs are quite dynamically different. We have a really slowed down track called ‘White Ghost‘ – which is almost like a ballad, and then you’ve got songs like ‘Lifeblood‘ which really pulls on the emotional heartstrings so we dive in and out of all kinds of songs. We’re releasing the album in February and there’s 16 songs on there. We planned it out so it’s going to be a journey”.

In the full interview, Marcus talks more about the album including the title, discusses new single ‘Ferryman‘ and its video clip, authenticity in music, what they were going from musically with the album, what things they learn from supporting high profile bands, their upcoming tour and more.
