GROOVER Review: XIII DOORS ‘Unleash The Beast’

Share This:

I’m not sure if it’s a clever marketing ploy or the guys from XIII Doors think the rest of the world speaks their language, but I can’t read a word of their bio. Fortunately, another section tells me the song is called Unleash The Beast, and it is the band’s second single released on December 4 last year, but at the end of the day it’s the music that matters, so who gives two fucks if I can’t read their writing?

The track fires up with a meaty guitar riff and precise drumming before some electronics (I think) ease things back enough to welcome an awesome rock voice that changes the complexion of the song completely.

The music is still chunky and pretty heavy, but the vocals tell a different story. Best of both worlds.

The vocalist has a great range, bordering on highs to go with the driving rock lungs, but he doesn’t ever try to dominate, instead allowing his bandmates to contribute their own bits of excellence to go with his chops.

Around the 1.40 mark a wicked guitar solo takes centre stage, rising and falling in time with the solid as fuck drums, with the two waging a dual of sorts of which no one emerges victorious.

It’s an interesting blending of genres here and admittedly takes a moment to comprehend, but once the penny falls into place, the majesty of what XIII Doors are trying to achieve becomes crystal clear.

Very cool.
