GROOVER Review: THE GUIZE ‘Bardo House’

Share This:

Liverpool pop/rock outfit The Guize have released their latest track Bardo House on music video.

Starting with a seasoned guitar twang, the electronics kick in with the rest of the band as cries and laughter ring out somewhere in the distance. It already has an 80s type retro feel to it, which is accentuated with the arrival of vocalist Louie James.

She has a familiar yet unique sounding voice, weaving pop and rock sounds from the last four decades through a sonic tapestry that tips its hat to no one decade exclusively.

Jassy xX.G.Xx (yes, that’s apparently his name) keeps things moving in a psychedelic whirlpool while skinsman Joey Stix keeps things in check, but it is James who drives the track with a melting pot of vocal intrusions that are sultry and mesmerizing.

Jassy gets to hit us with a damn fine guitar solo about 2.20 in and even though the guitar tone fits the mood of the song I still find it hard to resonate with. It sounds like part guitar, part electronic machine, but, again, fits the song well.

A bit different to my regular track selection, but also a fun and adventurous tune that you just can’t get out of your head.
