GROOVER Review: SINTHETIK SENTIENZ ‘The Singularity’

Share This:

Described as a novel sci-fi metal band, Sinthetik Sentienz released their debut single The Singularity on January 26, and are keen for feedback, so here goes! But, before we continue, it is important to note this isn’t just any normal band, but rather one “comprising skilled human musicians and the AI entity Algorithmic Overdrive, the band stands at the vanguard of blending progressive metal with artificial intelligence,” according to their bio.

Starting off with a swirling and increasing guitar run, The Singularity grabs you from the outset, before a booming vocal presence overpowers the darkness as the drums fire menacingly in the undergrowth.

There’s already a lot going on here, with a tempered urgency racing us through the opening salvo and into a nice vocal breakdown that eases things off but magnifies the tension.

Some harsh, gang-style vocals rear their beautifully ugly head momentarily before the track resumes with the almost narrative-style clean vocals before they in turn are once more outed by the wicked harsh vocal attack.

A tasty guitar solo around the two-minute mark is a welcome interlude, acting as a buffer between the warring factions that allows both sides to regroup before the final assault.

The two opposing styles go at it toe to toe until the finale, which bows out gracefully with a nice fade out and neither side a clear victor.
