GROOVER Review: SILENCE KILLS ‘Beware’

Share This:

Metal outfit Silence Kills are set to release their second album Wrong Side Of History later this year, and have sent HEAVY the track Beware so we can become acquainted.

Opening with an operatic score that could lead anywhere, Silence Kills soon dispense with pleasantries as the vocalist announces his arrival with an almighty scream that calls his bandmates into action, and all thoughts of the opera are soon left in a trail of dust.

This is high-intensity stuff, dripping with venom, that is perfect cannon fodder for this time of the night.
The vocals are truly savage, and the song is all the better for it.

A small breakdown approaching the two-minute mark serves merely as a tease, but when the music is as intense as this, why would you want to change things up?

A softer, clean vocal passage presents around the 2.20 mark, but just before you start to question the band’s intentions the harsh vox return, but this time work in tandem with and overlap some softer tones.
A vocal breakdown sees in the three-minute mark, with the silence around the aggression a poignant moment. This leads into the first guitar solo of the song, and it wastes little time in making its presence felt.

The layered vocals return, and I have to say lack the punch of the harsh sounds on their own. It does, however, present an interesting fusion of dark and shade which, if anything, allows you to pace yourself to the songs’ conclusion rather than swing your way to the finish line.
