GROOVER Review: DISEASE ILLUSION ‘Plastic Ocean’

Who doesn’t like a bit of fresh, modern melodeath with their palate?

Which is exactly what Disease Illusion promise with their latest single Plastic Ocean, taken from their upcoming album of the same name.

Opening with a fierce and commanding vocal passage, things soon steer into electronics territory, with a swirling maelstrom of guitars and synths painting a bleak landscape.

Once the fierce growling vocals kick in, things step into much heavier territory as the stuttering musical score suggests a war of attrition between two unseen adversaries that has been going on long before this track was written.

There’s a nice contrast between drums and electronics going on here, possibly acting as the sonic battle between the weary warriors mentioned in the last paragraph.

A strong sense of urgency and chaos permeates throughout this track, and I hope I am right in guessing the album this is from could be conceptually based, and this song is but one piece of the puzzle?

A quick look at the music video reaffirms this thought, with the ability of Disease Illusion to put forth a tune with a strong societal message without sounding too preachy a definite plus.
