Finding Your Soul Through Music With PROJECT 34

Share This:

The brainchild of Chris and Renee Lahoud (primary songwriters and producers), Project 34 is more than just a band.

Much more.

They are a musical project that encompasses a myriad of sonic explosions to paint a visceral landscape of epic proportions.

Although having released two albums since their inception in 2017, Project 34 are ramping things up significantly with their third ‘self-titled’ release, an ambitious and groundbreaking collaboration encompassing 30 musicians from 13 different countries all packed together in one collection of music that promises to live up to the swelling hype.

Before then the project plans to release a couple of singles to set the tone for the complete album, starting with Heritage on October 1.

Chris sat down with HEAVY earlier today to discuss the new album and take us deeper into the world of Project 34.

“In a nutshell, the song is actually about our heritage,” he began. “It’s the idea that the journey of life through generations has built the person that we are today. That premise, that bloodline and experiences, that’s what’s filtered through by our cultural lineage to be allowing us as a vessel of creativity. I come from a middle Eastern background. Although I am second generation Australian, I don’t speak the language, know little to nothing of my family’s cultural background, and that is the lineage that really got me here. Basically, it dies with my parents. This song is a bit of a homage to that lineage made, which seems to be lost in time and has become less and less of a dynamic due to multiculturalism – which is a great thing of course – but it’s that realisation that one’s heritage is of extreme significance in the life of man and the emotions and creativity that we express today. That’s basically the premise of the track, and the lyrics are a bit of an abstract play on that idea. I discuss the loss of that realisation and as you can see in the film clip, as things start to burn away through the fire of time, that’s where I first began to question my identity due to that loss of culturalism and realisation that I’m in this bit of a limbo.”

In the full interview, Chris talks more about Heritage, the visually stunning film clip and what it represents, the messages trying to be put across, Project 34’s self titled album to be released on December 1, what to expect from the album, expanding on the sound of Project 34 and more.
