Hailing from the early days of death metal in New York Immolation have built a career over ten brilliant albums and have established themselves as one of the pioneers of the death metal genre. Now they prepare to hit Australia with Dark Funeral so HEAVY Mag sat down and had a chat with founding member Robert Vigna.
“They were great,” says Vigna when we talk about their Australia fans as the band really enjoyed their past visit Down Under. “All of the shows were amazing and we even worked our way to New Zealand as well last time which was awesome. But all the shows were great, we had a great reaction and it was great to finally get down there because that was the very first time that we were there. So yeah for us it was awesome, it was awesome and we expect this time will be even better because we will be there with Dark Funeral so it should be a really cool combination, and there will be other bands there as well so it will be a really cool time. Each show will be like a mini-festival so I am super-psyched.”
“I’m not sure we do anything well but we do what we can,” says Vigna laughing when I mention that their live shows have been garnering praise for years now. “Just like any other band we get up there and do our thing. When it comes to the Immolation live show we just want to play the songs to the fans, we get into it there is no doubt about that. We are pretty calm and collected off the stage but when we get up there it is time to get down to business, we have a good time and we enjoy it. And the better the crowd reaction the more energy we get.”
