Melbourne punk aficionados Clowns are at it again with a recently announced Australian Winter Tour, this time with Tasmania in their sights.
Clowns recently released their third 7” EP Powders to an overwhelmingly positive response, including the band’s first ever sold out show at Melbourne’s The Old Bar.
The zest of Clowns was spread internationally last year with an extensive tour of South East Asia. The band plan to embark on yet another national tour only months after their last run up the East Coast in support of Powders.
The upcoming tour consists of ten dates up (and down and then up again) Australia’s East Coast, among which are three Tasmanian dates, a first time experience for the Melbourne based punk quartet.
A particularly enthused bass player, James Ahern, cites his eagerness:
“We’re really psyched to finally get down to Tassie to finally scope out the awesome amount of positive buzz that’s been circulating around the Tasmanian punk scene, and put all these Tasweigans out on a limb with our shoey skills.”
Shoey’s of course being the activity of when one skulls beer from a nearby shoe.
A fourth EP called You Got The Curse will be out in the coming months and rumors are already starting to circulate that the band have plans to release something of greater quantity towards the end of the year.
As part of the tour, Clowns will also be playing at this year’s fifth annual Dead Of Winter Festival alongside Victoria’s King Parrot. Dead Of Winter Festival is a horror focused and fancy dress themed festival that has steadily increased in popularity since its inception in 2009.
Anyone who has been to a Clowns show before knows how sheerly maniacal the band can be when on stage, so don’t miss your chance to catch them on their Australian Winter Tour starting later this month.
