Recipe For Destruction with WITCHGRINDER

After a number of personnel changes Melbourne stalwarts Witchgrinder have settled on a solid line-up, celebrating by releasing their new single ‘Demonic Death Machine‘.

The new personal also signals a fresh sound for the band, capturing a darker, heavier sound while still staying true to the hard industrial sounds which they are known for.

“Its been really really good,” vocalist/guitarist Travis Everett enthused on the response to the song. “This is our first single in two years that we’ve released and it’s obviously following up to an album next year that we’re gonna be doing, but the response has been great. We did all of the promos by ourselves this time so we knew where and when it was going out. We thought we would see how much we could get it out to people through little radio stations, podcasts, magazines and independent stuff and everyone has treated us well and looked after us. The fans have been great too. This song is a little bit different compared to a lot of our other stuff so we were a bit unsure how it would go but the feedback has been great from everyone.”

‘Demonic Death Machine’ is a title that would have to be in contention for song title of the year (if there was one), with Everett revealing the title was actually the first thing written with the song forming around that.

“It’s about a… it’s kind of a futuristic look at soldiers that go out to war just to kill,” he measured. “I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it but I was watching a lot of YouTube videos where they were coming up with these new suits for the army – on the ground kind of bio weaponry stuff – but I was watching this guy who was totally into it and he came across as demonic to me in a way. He just wanted a war to happen so he could get out there and kill people. I don’t think he cared what side he was on even. That idea was playing around in my head and I remember jotting down the title and it was just too cool to not use (laughs). It was more the title than the song idea.”

In the full interview, Travis discusses the old school film clip, the upcoming album, introduces the new members, talks about the newer direction, and gives details on Witchgrinders last live performance for the year.
