Baristas better be on full alert as Ziltoid the Omniscient has earmarked a return to planet earth to find that elusive perfect coffee he craves so much.
Devin Townsend has announced that he will be releasing a second album based on the adventures of puppet Ziltoid who hails from the planet Ziltoidia 9. Ziltoid landed on our fair planet in 2007 under the guise of a concept album where he goes on a planetary search for the ultimate cup of coffee and upon arrival to Earth, is bitterly disappointed by what he’s presented. Declaring war, he summons Ziltoidian Warlords to wreak havoc on us all.
After its release, Townsend, who wrote, recorded and played all instruments on the album, decided that Ziltoid had seen his day on Earth and claimed, at the time, that he didn’t think metal and comedy worked well together. Tell that to Spinal Tap.
Now, much to the delight of fans, Ziltoid has gained cult like status and since Devy has finished work on his upcoming Casualties of Cool album, he has had a change of heart and confirmed rumours that have been circulating since February – that Ziltoid will get to travel to Earth once more.
Posting on Twitter, Townsend also revealed this time Ziltoid isn’t just settling for an album. The project, currently going by the title Z2, will also have the alien getting his own TV and radio shows where he will interview bands. One can only imagine the questions.
So Casualties is one solid month from being ‘put to bed’ …as a result of it’s nature presenting itself recently, I am now cleared for Z2!

As a result, each project is ‘pure’ in my mind. Ziltoid is now not hindered by thoughts of Epicloud or Casualties. Thats how she rolls, =) — Devin Townsend (@dvntownsend) June 2, 2013
