With the South Australian Music Awards gearing up for a November 3 ceremony, HEAVY sat down for a chat with one of the judges and spokeswoman for Girls Rock!, Hannah Fairlamb, about her involvement with both initiatives.
“It is, it’s great,” she enthused when asked if it is an honour to be involved with the awards. “I was able to do it last year as well which is fantastic. It’s one of the high points of the SA music calendar so its a real privilege to be involved.”
Being involved so closely with the local music scene on a number of levels, Fairlamb admits that while there is a fine line between letting personal bias or raw talent dictate her voting, each vote she casts will be based on pre-existing criteria.
“I definitely keep it in mind,” she measured, “but I’m absolutely looking for the best people in each category to be awarded the gong. It’s something that I keep in mind whenever I’m listening is to keep the same criteria to everyone in each category.”
In the full interview, Hannah discusses the merits of the awards, her background in punk rock, her association with Girls Rock!, what the organisation represents, how Girls Rock! benefits those involved, running a not for profit organisation and more.
Peoples choice voting is now open. More details here: Official Website
