WOLF & CUB Ready For Action

Share This:

After having their album touring schedule decimated last year because of the global effects of COVID, South Australian rockers Wolf & Cub are set to finally venture outside of their respective homes and make the trek to Brisbane as part of The Other Festival which will be held on February 13.

Vocalist/electric guitar/percussionist Joel Byrne caught up with HEAVY during the week to discuss the festival and other happenings within Wolf & Cub.

The obvious first topic of conversation was whether or not recent events in Brisbane had played on the band’s mind with the festival now only one month away.

“It wouldn’t have had we not already had a bunch of shows affected by it,” Byrne replied. “I guess it’s par for the course and you would be incredibly ignorant and not really aware of what’s happening if you weren’t worried about it. I think having to factor in contingency plans is part of the game now as far as being a touring band goes, it’s just how it is. You have to kind of be prepared for the worst-case scenario. I think you have to be a little more pre-emptive like that. There’s hesitation and so much out there to suggest you should be waiting for clearer, greener pastures but I think if you’re doing that you can be waiting forever. When we got the call (to play) I was pretty surprised but at the same time I was like, fuck, I’m glad there’s something to set your sights for. We have had so many things fall by the wayside purely because of COVID. Just the fact we get to go to Brisbane again is exciting. We had a whole tour planned around this time because our record came out and we were set to be hitting Brisbane around this time. Playing at the venue we’re playing at and playing with COG it’s the perfect reason to come.”

In the full interview, Joel discusses which bands he is looking forward to catching up with, how the band treats slots of local festivals, how COVID has specifically impacted Wolf & Cub, the band’s musical direction after Nil, the history of the band and their decision to form with two drummers and more.
