Sydney alternative rock outfit We Are Not Robots have dropped their latest single “Just Lie Again”, a haunting tune intended as an emotive ode to those who have found themselves struggling under the crippling weight of expectation and self-doubt.
Vocalist/guitarist Pete Konakov sat down with HEAVY during the week to discuss the song and other things happening within the band.
When he mentioned early in the chat that “Just Lie Again” was a different song for the band we felt obliged to press him for details.
“It’s just a bit of a different vibe,” he offered. “It’s a lot darker than the regular stuff that we do, and it’s not by design. It just happened that way. It’s an old song, so Lee and I – who is the bass player – we were in a previous band and we had that song there and it was completely different. It was way more upbeat, kind of like a straight-ahead rock song. We were never really too fond of it and then we brought it into this band just for shits and giggles really to see how it would sound and the drummer Amanda gave it a completely different vibe and we just fell in love with it. I remember after an hour of playing it the first time we knew it was gonna be the next single.”
In the full interview, Pete talks about the complexities and meaning of the song, the light and shade within musically, future new music, expanding the band and more.
