This year has been epic year for Chicago based metalcore band Veil Of Maya. 2018 has seen them embark on an epic amount of tours lining up with bands such as Underoath and The Devil Wears Prada as well as visiting countries as far and wide as India. Now it is Australia’s turn as they head Down Under with Dance Gavin Dance… a tour that is proving to be very popular indeed.
With tickets fast selling for the Dance Gavin Dance and Veil Of Maya tour HEAVY Mag decided to catch up with Marc Okubo to see what they have in store for their Australian tour.
“We try to play a little something off all of the records,” says Okubo as we start to chat about the tour in depth. “I guess we will promote our newest album so we should have a little bit of something for everyone, but we have a new vocalist since we went to Australia last time so we want to highlight him to Australia as much as we can and we will have to see how our new material does. The last time we were there I guess it didn’t really feel like it was a Veil show, we were on tour with Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder and Make Them Suffer and the shows were great but we didn’t get a very good reaction then… it didn’t feel like the crowds were there for us. Hopefully this time it will be different.”
“The boy can sing that is for sure,” he laughs when we start to talk about the new vocalist – Lukas Magyar formally of Arms Of Empire. “I honestly don’t think we are taking anything away from our old stuff if anything I think we are adding to it. We can play the old stuff just fine but now we have this whole new section of material that we can play. Hopefully we get to see a whole bunch of people singing along. Please come along and check us out, check out our new material if you haven’t already. And if you are a fan of us but haven’t checked out Dance Gavin Dance then check them out to, they are very different but they are extremely talented and their new album is amazing, so definitely come along, check us out, hang out because we would love to see you.”
