Third time’s a charm: Rolling Thunder announces new venue, cancelled band

Share This:

There’s been a new venue announced for Rolling Thunder Festival for February headlined by The Sword.

The first venue was surrounded in allegations about Kryal Castle never being confirmed.  The promoter, Heathen Skulls, quickly scrambled for a new venue, promising camping facilities but that never eventuated.  Instead, a mysterious photo of a theatre-type venue appeared on the festival’s Facebook event page that was the Collingwood Town Hall.

Now, the organisers have announced that the festival will shift again up the road to the Coburg Town Hall and they’ve got a new alcohol sponsor in Coburg Lager (the promo posters previously listed Young Henry’s as the sponsor but that was quickly shot down by the brewers when they made a statement that they weren’t the official alcohol sponsor).

The festival has also had its festival band cancellation in Salem’s Pot.

Here’s the full Facebook press release:

Here at Rolling Thunder HQ we’re extremely excited to announce that the great folks at Coburg Lager have come on board as our main sponsor, as a result we are preparing a killer outdoor bar in addition to food trucks, market stalls and a rock photography exhibition of local artists.

For this reason it has been necessary to switch Rolling Thunder from Collingwood Town Hall to the historic Coburg Town Hall and its grand ballroom.
Coburg Larger are now sponsoring Rolling Thunder at Coburg Town hall.
With the addition of our new partners the reality is that we are going to need a larger space in order to present the kind of Festival that we originally envisioned, though the staff at Collingwood Town hall have been great to work with, there are limitations with their outdoor space due to the high risk of it’s surrounding areas and dense traffic conditions, because of this we’ve made the decision to move the event to nearby Coburg Townhall, opposite Pentridge Prison.

Thankfully with Coburg Town Hall there is ample space, plenty of parking, a large Courtyard area, multiple function rooms and a huge foyer to host a Rock Photography exhibition, there’s also adequate Public Transport (No 1 & 19 Trams and Coburg Train Station). In short this change will make for a much better Festival all round as we can now present everything that we envisioned and more, and we’re absolutely stoked about the change of venue.

In other news, we’ve just got word that Salem’s Pot are not going to be able to tour Australia in February as was originally planned. We tried our very best to make it work so they could still come out for the Festival but unfortunately it’s outside of our control as we were never presenting their tour, we were simply booking them for this show. We hope Salem’s Pot can find a way to get out to Australia soon, as there is certainly a lot of us keen to see them live.
Sorry to those that were so looking forward to seeing them.

It’s been a wild ride but we appreciate everyone’s patience while we secured the perfect location for the first ever Rolling Thunder Festival. This will be an all ages family-friendly event so we hope you can all make it down to Coburg Sunday 21st Feb 2016. Bring your Families, bring your friends, come and see some amazing Australian bands and kick ass International artists.

Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or if you are unable to attend the new venue.
