The Wolves Arrive With WATAIN

When HEAVY Mag catches up with Watain vocalist Erik Danielsson to talk about their forthcoming Australian tour he is hard at work. Not hard at work putting together new music but working in an art studio preparing visual for their tour that hits South America first and then Australia. In the background, I can hear paint brushes hitting jars and the excitement in his voice as he talks about what they have in store for their Australian fans.

“We’ve had about a two-month break,” he says as he keeps working. “The body is itching for chaos again… nah fuck it… this is going to be absolutely amazing. The Australian shows are part of a much larger tour that is starting in a week in South America, then we head straight from Mexico to Melbourne, stay there a few days and then start the Australian shows. It is going to be amazing, we are headlining for the first time, we are going to New Zealand for the first time… it is bound to be a legendary tour”

“We have been working so hard on the tour preparations,” he says when I ask how the band they have spent the months between the last shows. “Right now I am painting the banners in an arts studio here in Stockholm and the other guys are already in South America and working on some of the stage show there. But yeah there has been some rest – it is the Swedish winter here so I wanted to make sure that I had a few months of northern desolation before I headed into the warmer climate. It has been good, we toured for most of 2018 so this has been a really good break.”

Of course, Watain have put on some amazing shows over the years… even capturing the attention of TMZ for one and Danielsson says this is a tour their fans will remember. “If you wanted to see what the fuck the fuss is about now is the opportunity,” he says. “We are going to be doing shows that are a great a representation of what the band is today. And what the band is today is something fiercer than it has ever been… so take your chance.”
