It is the tour that most fans thought they would never get to see again – Anberlin. When the alternative rockers from Florida called it a day in 2014 it seemed like that was the end of an era. But late last year the band played a reunion show in their home state and then announced that they would also do shows across the rest of the United States and also a string of shows in Australia.
To find out what exactly is happening in the Anberlin camp HEAVY Mag had a talk to the band’s drummer Nate Young.
“We all re-connected together about a year ago after not seeing each other for four years,” says Young as he recounts has these tours came into play. “Two of us were near the same city but some of us were pretty far away, but we just talked and then we reconnected and we had some conversations about playing some shows. Then we ended up playing a couple of shows last year and then Australia came up and that was a bit of a no brainer for us because we all love Australia. It had been so long and we just wanted to get back and have some fun together, play some rad shows and for us Australia was at the top of that list.”
I ask Nate how it feels now the band is back together again for these shows and he answers me honestly. “That last year together was so brutal,” he explains. “It was so intense as we were trying to balance everything. We were coming up to a twelve year career, so it was stressful and just a lot to handle, so for us just reconnecting for us was really nice. I realised that it had probably been about thirteen years, before we started the band, since we had just chilled at a friendship level. We were at that point where your band just becomes your career and you have all these meetings and decisions and even though you are as close as you are you have to realise that that is still the overall goal – that it is all about business and what is your next thing. So being able to get back together, stay on the beach in Florida and we just hung and talked and we just reconnected with no other goals other than to just reconnect… it was cool… really cool.”
