The Joys Of Discovery With EDWIN PREMBERG From METALITE

Interview by Ali Williams

For over a decade, Swedish melodic power metal outfit Metalite has stood at the absolute cutting edge of heavy music, carving out a distinct identity by fusing futuristic science fiction narratives with high-octane energy. Founded in 2015 by guitarist and main songwriter Edwin Premberg, the band quickly garnered a massive international following with their stellar debut, Heroes in Time. They further cemented their reputation as modern electronic metal pioneers across subsequent records like Biomechanicals and A Virtual World.

By successfully wedding cinematic synthesizers, heavy guitar riffs, and soaring hooks, they built a highly distinct sonic universe. Now, they are prepared to unleash their most conceptually expansive and musically punishing statement yet. On 25 September 2026, Metalite will officially release their highly anticipated studio album, Discovery, via Perception / Reigning Phoenix Music.

Discovery serves as a direct, sweeping sci-fi sequel to their previous narrative arcs, continuing an epic storyline that explores human evolution, advanced technology, and space survival in an increasingly unstable digital age. Musically, the album introduces a massive step forward in overall production and performance. Mixed and mastered by the legendary Danish producer Jacob Hansen, who is famed for his work with Volbeat, Evergrey, and Amaranthe, the record delivers a crushing, heavier low-end. It masterfully showcases an aggressive wall of sound that doesn’t compromise the band’s signature melodic shine. This brand new record also marks the studio debut of new drummer Erik Junttila, who infuses the technical compositions with a blistering, fresh rhythmic precision.

Ahead of the full release, fans have already been treated to a diverse spread of singles that showcase the sheer breadth of Discovery. High-energy tracks like Our Time Has Come and Starchild set a fast, triumphant pace, while the heavy rhythms of In Case of Emergency offer a powerful commentary on loyalty and mutual support amidst modern chaos. More recently, the deeply evocative single Echoes of You revealed a darker, highly emotional side to the album, emphasizing the haunting nature of persistent memories and demonstrating the profound vocal range of frontwoman Erica Ohlsson. From complex synth arrangements to bone-shattering guitar work, Discovery stands as a bold declaration of innovation in modern power metal.

We had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Metalite mastermind Edwin Premberg to talk all things Discovery. In this insightful conversation, we pull back the curtain on the creative process behind writing songs around an overarching science fiction narrative and dive into the band’s deliberate evolution toward a heavier, more low-end-driven mix. Furthermore, Edwin reflects on the sheer technological leap of producing complex modern music—vividly charting his own journey from writing primitive early tracks on a vintage Amiga 500 computer to commanding a limitless digital recording studio. Grab your headphones, step into the cyberspace matrix, and join us as we dive into the bold new era of Metalite.
