Which band opened for Judas Priest and then only a few years later had Metallica open for them? The answer is British heavy metal legends Raven who are about to hit Australia alongside fellow heavy-weights Girlschool and Venom Inc. We recently spoke to lead vocalist John Gallagher about this amazing tour.
“This is something that has been on our bucket list for quite a few years,” explains Gallagher when he is asked how the tour came about. “Unfortunately it always ended up getting parked but then a friend of mine suggested that I talk to Hardline Media, which we did and then BOOM things started happening. They’ve managed to put together a package and now we are coming over with our old friends Girlschool and Venom Inc., so it is going to be one hell of a package and we are really looking forward to it.”
“Well it is a big world but it is getting smaller,” he says when we start talking about how excited they are about being able to come over and play in front of their Australian fans. After Mark’s accident and we did the Walk Through Fire album there has been a lot of firsts each year, we got to go to South America for the first time, there was a whole lot of European countries that we had never been to and we have got to go to them. We are about to go to Mexico for the first time at the end of May, we do Ecudador and we do Chile and then we come over to Australia. We are looking forward to it amazingly. We just know that the Australians are no-nonsense, what you see is what you get… and that is our kind of people. That is just what it is like where we come from in Newcastle, hard-working, play hard and what you see is what you get.”
