Words and interview by Coco Le Sex Bomb

As the release date for their second album The Blessed Ghost – out on July 15 – draws nearer, New Zealand rock outfit Voodoo Bloo are ramping up the promo, recently releasing the album’s second track Small which follows last years Skin.

The announcement of the new 12-track album welcomes a new frontier for Voodoo Bloo, as well as a new line-up consisting of Rory McDonald as lead singer and guitar, Daniel Maslen on guitar, Oli Cass on bass and Jackson Kidd on drums.

McDonald caught up with HEAVY ‘s Coco Le Sex Bomb to chat about the album.

“Gosh, where do I even start?” he laughed. “This new album is a pretty big jump from the sort of stuff that we were doing before. We had our roots in doing more punky type things, but then certain things came up in all of our lives and our influences changed – as it does for many artists – and we stepped into newer territory n this album. It’s a bit longer than the last one, but still has that high energy and that Voodoo Bloo sound. This album takes us to places that we haven’t been to before.”

In the full interview, Rory talks more about the songs on the album, the shift in musical territory, coming to Australia, his dream touring line-up, the creative process for the band’s video clips, future plans and more.
