Formed towards the end of 2019, Brisbane hardcore outfit Till Ya Dead were dealt a crippling blow from the outset, when COVID restrictions ceased their musical assault before it had even begun.
One thing working in their favour was the fact that the bulk of the members grew up and played together in Lismore two decades earlier, so the chemistry was already in place which helped carry the band through the forced leave of absence and into the new era of music created post pandemic.
Determined to pick up quickly, Till Ya Dead released the crushing single Draw The Knife, a middle finger in the air to COVID and the circumstances it created.
Draw The Knife is the first single lifted from Till Ya Dead’s upcoming debut album Aftermath and is the ideal introduction between band and music lover.
HEAVY caught up with drummer Andrew and vocalist Casey to find out more.
“From a musical perspective in terms of the vibe and rhythm, I guess we were going for a heavy, aggressive old kind of 90s, 2000 hardcore sound,” Andrew explained. “Let out that aggression and hit it pretty hard.”
Draw The Knife is the debut single from Till Ya Dead, so HEAVY asks the question of why the band chose this particular track to introduce their music.
“COVID, mate,” Casey leveled. “It’s pretty much a fuck you sort of song. Andrew wrote the lyrics, but it’s everything that a lot of us were all feeling at the time and what we were all going through.”
In the full interview, the boys talk more about Till Ya Dead’s sound, creating your own path in music, the upcoming album and what to expect, surviving the COVID period, future plans and more.
