Share This:

Russian Resurrection Film Festival has released a sneak peek of its festival program for 2017 with a fantastic line up of films already confirmed.

Russian Resurrection Film Festival is a celebration of one of the world’s most diverse film cultures and we are delighted to announce a preview of our program for 2017. We have already confirmed some excellent Russian films and we look forward to announcing more in coming weeks,” says Russian Resurrection Festival Director Nicholas Maksymow.

The selection of films confirmed for this year include new science fiction box office hit Attraction, opera-themed love drama Queen of Spades, Russian historical blockbuster Viking and Yolki 5, the most recent of the Yolki holiday comedies.

The Australian and New Zealand premiere of Valery Todorovsky’s latest film The Bolshoi will also be held at Russian Resurrection Film Festival 2017.

Directed by renowned Russian Director, Fyodr Bondarchuk, new science fiction film Attraction premiered in Russia in January and quickly became a box office hit.

Attraction is a film about humanity and tolerance showing a Russian city in disarray after a crash landing of an alien ship.  The film focuses on how people respond to the unknown with many questioning their own existence and others demanding the aliens leave Earth.  The daughter of a leading military officer is on a mission to help the aliens find the way home and finds herself falling in love in the process.

New opera themed drama, Queen of Spades, will also be screening at Russian Resurrection Film Festival this year. Director Peter Lungin co-scripted the love triangle psychodrama with David Seidler, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The King’s Speech.

Set in contemporary Moscow Queen of Spades is centred around the casting for an opera lead by the great soprano Sofia Mayer. Sofia once conquered the world with her voice, her beauty and the legend she carefully built around herself. Now only the legend remains — the diva herself hasn’t performed for years. But the woman who fascinated and thrilled the world for so long wants to crown her career with one more triumph. And in Queen of Spades she’ll use every dirty trick she knows to achieve it.

Viking is also confirmed to screen at Russian Resurrection Film Festival this year. Directed by Andrei Kravchuk and starring Danila Kozlovsky and Svetlana Khodchenkova,
Viking is a 2016 Russian historical blockbuster about medieval prince Vladimir the Great, Prince of Novgorod.

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and Indar Dzhendubaev, Yolki 5 is the most recent release of Russia’s end of year Yolki holiday comedies.  Yolki 5 hilariously captures the lives of six people in different countries who all cross paths on New Year’s Eve.

The Russian Resurrection Film Festival 2017 returns to Cinema Paradiso in Northbridge from 27 October to 1 November.
