Dawn Heist – Catalyst

2013 has been a big year for Sydney groove melodic metal outfit, Dawn Heist. Previously the band had released two well-received EPs that saw them capture the attention of the German based Bastardized Records.

With that relationship cemented, Dawn Heist have now hit us with their fantastic debut album, simply titled Catalyst which proves once and for all that electronic sounds and metal can co-exist happily.

The heavy electronic influence is there for all to hear on opening track ‘Asencion’ and from their Dawn Heist takes the listener on a pleasurable ride that varies between the aggressive, brutal sounds of ‘Escaping The Cornucopia’ and ‘Serescape’, through to the melodic ‘Zenith’ and the slowed down reflective ‘Reflections.’ Yes no matter the style or pace Dawn Heist just hit the mark repeatedly throughout the album.

Catalyst is the kind of album that you’ll want to listen to over and over again. The atmosphere that Dawn Heist manage to create on this album is a rarity, something normally reserved for the more Gothic sounding metal bands. Dawn Heist not only announce themselves to the world with Catalyst they do enough to win over a legion of fans and make sure you realise that they are a band that you need to know about.
