It is shaping up for a couple of big months for Australia’s own Orpheus Omega. The band are about to drop one of the finest albums of 2019 in the form of Wear Your Sins and then will hit the road with mighty Finns Omnium Gatherum to showcase the new material to fans right around Australia.
“The blood, sweat and tears really come through with this music,” says lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Themelco when he catches up with HEAVY Mag to chat about Wear Your Sins. “I guess with this album we were in a different place to where we were with the last album, during that last album we had all gone through some pretty personal stuff and that affected a lot of the writing on that one. We were all in totally different places and I think the music really showed that. This time around I think we were all in better places in our lives and I think the formed the writing process a little more. I think we were also able to try a lot more things we wanted to out do ourselves and think there was a conscious effort to just challenge ourselves and try to write things that we weren’t comfortable with… and I think that was probably the biggest part of the album.”
Here’s the first song from released today (7 March 2019):
“We weren’t trying to write really different songs or anything,” says Themelco when we talk about the fact that the album seems to contain so many different genres. “We did make an agreement between ourselves though that we weren’t going to let anything hold us back especially with the style of the writing. We decided that we weren’t just going to be a mellow death band or any kind of song, we were just going to write music. This was the first time since the first album that we jammed everything out before we recorded it and just let the songs take us where they needed to. That is a process that we haven’t down for a while but because where we are as a band we were able to do that this time around.”
