Brisbane’s Stepson unleashed their latest single “Run” on the changing world a couple of weeks ago, with bass player/vocals Jayden Ridley opening up to HEAVY about the song and Stepson’s plans to navigate the current climate.
“Run is very much a Stepson song”, he smiled, “but there are a few different things like… I think it’s my first time ever with a full, clean chorus where Brock (Alan Conry, vocals) and I haven’t been singing at the same time which is pretty cool. It’s probably the proudest I have ever been with my voice in a recording. It’s good to have it out. It’s got a kind of different feel to some of our other stuff so it’s cool seeing the different opinions and stuff. Some people are saying this is weird and other people are like holy shit this rules. I take both of them as wins (laughs)”.
In the full interview, Jayden talks about Run from a musical perspective and Stepson’s goals with it, the film clip and leaving it open for personal interpretation, the reaction from fans to emotional lyrics, debut album Help Me Help You and its content, having to put off the release date and dealing with uncertain times, the step-up in releasing a full album from an EP and more.
