On The Run With CROOKED THIEVES

Hard rock/punk outift Crooked Thieves have certainly be creating waves in Melbourne’s live music scene with some killer shows recently. The band have also just released their brand new singe ‘Maniac’ from their forthcoming EP Adrenaline that will be out on August 2nd. HEAVY Mag recently had the privilege of being able to chat to three members of the band.

“Well basically Crooked Thieves is Jackson, Nathan, Emma and me, Shane,” explains Shane the lead singer when we catch up with the trio of Crooked Thieves. “Basically Emma and I were playing in a band up in Brisbane and we decided that it had run its course so we decided to move down here (Melbourne) and started a project but then we decided that we wanted to do something a little heavier.”

“Yeah we wanted to do metal,” adds Emma. “We started the project about a year ago and then we went onto Facebook and found Jackson who played in another band called and we listened to some of their stuff and we were like ‘wow he’s great’ so he started drumming for us and then he brought Nathan along who also plays in the band… so that was how we formed.”

“It was actually quite easy,” says Shane when I ask if it was a difficult decision to make the move from Brisbane to Melbourne. “We came down here for a trip, just to relax, and we went to a gig and saw what the live music scenes was like down here.”

“It was just better,” agrees Emma. “There were more gigs, there were more venues and there more bands. It seems to be more of a thing here. We had been thinking about it for awhile and then in 2017 we just did it. We were just like ‘let’s do it, let’s move’ so we came down and we found a place in Fitzroy… we made the move. It was an easy decision to make because this is the place to be.”

In the full interview which you can hear on Spotify we chat to the band about what fans can expect on the new EP, plus other things.
