On The Hunt With DELAIN

Dutch symphonic metal outfit Delain have just wowed the world with the video to their brand new single ‘Master Of Destiny’ and lead vocalist Charlotte Wessels has just told HEAVY Mag that it is just a taste of what is to come with their new album Hunter’s Moon which is out on February 22nd.

“Well it is a little bit of an odd album,” she says with a laugh. “It has four new studio tracks and like a lot of live tracks on it. What inspired us to release this one first of all is that we have been doing this thing where we release an EP and then an album and then an EP and then an album for awhile now. We wanted to go straight to a feature release but we have had so many requests for a preview of what we are working on so we worked on that and picked two of the new tracks that we have been working on for the new album and then our guitarists wrote another two songs that went on the record. But then a bulk of our release is from our last tour because it was the first time that Marco Hietala (from Nightwish) joined us on the road for a full tour and he was able to perform a number of the songs that he has been able to do with us on our records over the years. We recorded that and then when we watched it we thought ‘no this isn’t just going to be a few videos on Youtube this is going to be an actual release because we like it so much.’ So we decided to put it all together and that is how we have Hunter’s Moon now.”

“When we’ve recorded ourselves live before it has been really nerve-wrecking,” admits Wessels when I ask her whether the knowledge that she is being recorded changes how she approaches a live show. “I got super, super nervous and we had like a year of preparing that and with the pledge campaign it really built up a lot of hype around it so I was really, really nervous and I could really hear that. But here the difference was that we were in a tour and we had already done a few shows with this set list and with Marco there. Everything felt well rehearsed and like a well-oiled machine and everything was really smooth so the vibe was more relaxed to begin with.”

Hunter’s Moon is out through Napalm Records on February 22nd.
