After years of ripping the festival circuit overseas German prog death metal outfit Obscura are finally coming to Australia this March. Joining them will be Alarum and Somnium Nox making a bill that you simply cannot miss. HEAVY Mag recently sat down with Obscura’s main man Steffen Kummerer to see what the band has in store for their Australian fans.
“About five or six years we learnt how many Australian fans we had but we never made a tour happen,” laments Kummerer as he chats about the forthcoming tour. “We’ve done North America, central America and even Japan but we have never made it to Australia, so we are really really excited about that, plus we get to bring the guys from Alarum with us. I don’t really know what to expect from the tour but I’ve heard positive things about Australia from other bands like Cannibal Corpse so I am really, really excited.”
Kummerer laughs when I ask why they chose Alarum as their tour mates and whether they are looking to have a good time in Australia “First of all we know how to party,” he says laughing loudly. “Second of all I have known these guys for about eight years so I am really, really happy that we have been able to work this tour out. Somnium Nox I don’t know yet but I hope to soon – they were a recommendation from Dave Haley from Psychcroptic who are also involved with the tour so I don’t know what to expect there… but hey we are always making new friends on the road… so I am really looking forward to that. We have also chosen a couple of local bands for each show and I think that is important because local bands are very important for the scene, like some of the local bands we have had play with us before have been Fallujah and Beyond Creation, that was years ago so hey a local band today could be one of the leaders of the genre tomorrow.”
