This release has been a long time in the making.
The material was originally written by Ed on a midi keyboard and released as two shitty EP’s in 2012 and 2013. Adrian(sax) and Skinny(bass) have been around since the beginning and after a long search to find the right drummer, Maty came on board. The band rehearsed the two eps and performed a few well-received shows before illness put Monstrom on hiatus indefinitely in 2015. After a couple of years, it was decided that a decent recording was required and Eponymous Debut is the result. Initial Infection is a good introduction to the band’s irreverent take on music, which ranges from Buckethead style riffs to something one might hear in a nightmarish French bistro, cartoon sound effects blended with electronica and swing.

The album was inspired by Ed’s love of sax driven weird with a focus on heavy riffs in the style of Mr Bungle and Naked City. There are next to no discernible words across the recording with the vocal being used as another instrument to enhance the style being worked on. The primary focus is definitely on the music, which is heavy, strange, sometimes beautiful, but always unhinged.
