MONSTER TRUCK – Furiosity (Dine Alone Records)

Possibly one of the coolest bands you will discover this year is Canada’s hard rockin’ Monster Truck. Mixing a little Unida, a touch of The Black Crowes, and the heavy duty powerhouse of Alabama Thunderpussy, these Ontario cats know how to get the party started.

Kicking off with a footstomping rocker aptly titled The Giant with its huge sound and ferocious backbeat that rolls along like the ass kicker it is. My Love Is True is as romantic as the band gets, channelling some classic female vocals and some guitar noodling that pays tribute to the powerful songs of seduction from the 70s. Speaking of which, the guitar work on this album is insanely groovy and at times has that feel of Whitesnake most notably in songs like Sweet Mountain River and the perfectly titled, Boogie.

Furiosity is packed with a whallop of a punch, knocking you on your ass with its unrelenting riffs and frontman Jon Harvey’s impressive and highly powerful voice that dominates and commands you to kneel before the kingdom of rock n roll. It’s like you’re celebrating your 18th birthday and the special guests are Grand Funk Railroad armed with amps switched all the way up to ten. Huge amounts of awesome found within; approach with caution.
