Cairns genre fans will get a taste of Monster Pictures’ annual Melbourne-based genre film festival Monster Fest this December, thanks to the continuing partnership with Event Cinemas to presentMONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW at Event Cinema Cairns Central on December 8th – 10th
MONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW is a mix of horror-centric highlights from around the globe and features some select World, Australian and Queensland premieres.
Leading the Fest on Friday evening in an opening night red carpet gala will be Cairns filmmaker Travis Bain’s locally produced feature, LANDFALL. A thriller about a young couple trapped in their beach house by three armed fugitives, forced to rely on their wits and cunning as a severe tropical cyclone looms. Staring veteran Australian actors Vernon Wells (MAD MAX 2, COMMANDO) and Tony Bonner (SKIPPY, THE LIGHTHORSEMEN) alongside local actors including Daryl Heath, Andy Bramble and Shawn Brack. Financed by a combination of crowdfunding and a Regional Arts Fund grant, LANDFALL was filmed over 24 nights at Flying Fish Point and Coquette Point in 2016.
Writer/producer/director Travis Bain says he is thrilled that LANDFALL is about to be unveiled to Far North QLD moviegoers:
“LANDFALL will appeal to audiences worldwide, but especially those up here in the North,” Bain says. “You can practically feel the humidity and hear the geckos chirping in this film. But anyone who enjoys a good thriller should enjoy it, wherever they are in the world. It’ll keep you guessing right till the end.”
From contemporary to classic Aussie cinema, we are proud to present the World Premiere of an all-new 4K restoration of Russell Mulcahy’s 1984 Ozploitation masterpiece, RAZORBACK, painstakingly restored by Umbrella Films.
Another 4K restoration making its North Queensland debut is a 40th Anniversary screening ofSUSPIRIA, from Italian master of horror, Dario Argento.
Fresh from its World Premiere at MONSTER FEST in Melbourne is prolific Australian genre filmmaker Daniel Armstrong’s TARNATION, making its Queensland Premiere. Featuring possessed cultists, penis bugs and a demonic unicorn, it promises to be bigger, better, bloodier and more brutal than anything that he has ever done before!
Rounding out the program is the Queensland Premiere of the latest feature from BACKCOUNTRY filmmaker Adam MacDonald, PYEWACKET. A story of a teenage girl feeling trapped and hopeless by the death of her father and an unstable mother, turns to Black Magic to release her anger. Naively she performs an occult ritual to evoke the spirit of a witch to kill her mother but soon after realizes she has awoken something evil in the woods.
This MONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW line-up promises to be everything a Cairns horror film fan could wish for, from classics to new and even a film made in their own backyard!
