Mike and the Molotovs are a country punk band, self-described as “Spaghetti Punk” based in Phoenix, Arizona. As their audience and notoriety has continued to spread (thanks in part to winning the 98KUPD Playdio competition for 2024) the Molotovs paradoxically seem to have no interest in being popular, wealthy or famous. In fact, they are so adamantly opposed to being commodified, that they still refuse to sell merch.
“I don’t give a shit,” Mike has repeatedly stated. “We’re a band, not a brand.”
The Molotovs, a supergroup made up of country and punk luminaries, all seem to agree, which begs the question: if Mike and the Molotovs have no interest in becoming rockstars, then why work as hard as they do?
