Metal Evolution

We all like to think we are experts on all things metal but how many of us can say we are an Anthropologist of the genre? Sam Dunn the master documentary filmmaker brings us eleven branches from the Heavy Metal Family Tree touched upon in his first documentary Metal: A Headbangers Journey.

In what is the most comprehensive documentary made thus far on the history of heavy metal music, Dunn begins with every corner of music and intricately links it to heavy metal.

The family tree splintered in Dunn’s first doco, mentioned twenty six sub genres of metal and in this series, which originally was made for music cable channel vh1, highlights eleven of the most defining genres of the music and interviews over 300 of the most important artists past and present.

What resonates with Dunn’s abilities as a great story teller the most, is his undying passion for the music and what captures the attention of his audiences is we all wish we had come up with the idea first to travel the globe and interview our metal icons in such great detail. But could the rest of us keep an audience as intrigued as Dunn manages to in the grunge episode? Would anyone else even have the credibility to get away with it?
Like all the other Banger Films releases, there really is no excuse why no self respecting metal head won’t have this on their DVD shelf.
