Athenas Wake: Welcome To The Woodlands

Almost every band makes some form of progression in their career. Starting off by playing many breakdowns and recording deathcore influenced demos, Athenas Wake have already moved onto an annihilating blackened death metal sound. Throughout this debut EP, the band lay down a thunder storm of black/death metal riffs, blast beats and double kicks, eerie high pitched screams and guttural vocals, and a couple of guest vocalists. The third track ‘Displeasure’ features a lovely addition of female vocals throughout the chorus, and the epic EP closer ‘The Ambivalent’ has a few sections sung by Harley from Nicolas Cage Fighter.
I don’t feel like I am listening to the same band as I was two years ago, and that’s a great thing. Athenas Wake have made a big improvement, and they’re set to unleash this beast of a debut EP early 2013.
