With the countdown to Necrosonic Festival at The Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane on August 31 now on, HEAVY thought it appropriate to introduce you to the bands playing on the day, two at a time, starting from today until the day of the show.
Conjured by one of the dark architects behind the legendary Overcranked, Inferno and Dead of Winter Festivals, Necrosonic heralds a day filled with unrelenting brutality and the heaviest, most sinister sounds that the underworld has to offer, some even returning from the dead for the ritual.
Hosting 30 bands across three stages over 12 hours, Necrosonic Festival promises to satiate even the heaviest of hungers. Today meet Psycroptic and Snake Mountain.

PSYCROPTIC
Hailing from the tiny, frosty, untamed and detached Australian state that is Tasmania, Psycroptic have become an unparalleled act in an enigmatic worldwide movement commonly known as death metal. Many years have passed since their formation in 1999, the band having released 6 albums, all which show an organic progression along a clandestine path from which they will never stray.
Newer elements too can be expected when the new album is finally unleashed – more vocal variation, a heightened handle on instrumental melody, and an overwhelming sense that this act has truly mastered their craft.
SNAKE MOUNTAIN
Formed in 2015, Snake Mountain has collectively combined their influences of blast beats, heavy grooves, atmospheric melodies and 80’s and 90’s movie-inspired lyrics to create their own unique sound and a high-energy live experience.
In 2019 before the lockdown, Snake Mountain were selected to open for ex-Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and his band from Japan at his Brisbane show. YouTube sensation Ozzy Man Reviews used Snake Mountain’s single The Burden in his video Dodgy Australian Critters Swarm My Office!, which has gained over 600k Views.
Various members’ past projects have previously supported international bands such as Cradle Of Filth, Soilwork, Dissection, Dark Funeral and Cavalera Conspiracy to name a few over their decade plus spanning musical explorations.
2022 saw Snake Mountain open for The Stranger for their debut album anniversary as well as Be’Lakor’s Brisbane show which also featured Andy Gillion and Orpheus Omega. The band also performed a well received slot at the Vamped Up ‘Our Party’ Festival alongside headliners Witchgrinder and Our Last Enemy before wrapping up the year playing one of the last shows at Frankie’s Pizza in Sydney with Xenobiotic, Freedom of Fear and Remission.
Earlier this year, Snake Mountain unleashed their crushing debut EP, Villainous I: Reverence.
