For some reason, the title alone of this track from Luca Mine tickled my funny bone.
I Don’t Care About You can be applied to many people and situations in this world, so let’s see who and/or what Mine is feeling apathy towards…
It starts with a different twist, with the vocalist singing through a megaphone held up to the microphone, but without the usual static and feedback that generally accompanies such a move.
There’s a definite Green Day vibe going on here when the drums and guitar kick in. It’s fun and adventurous, with a steady tempo that lends its hand to a general feeling of neglect.
It’s solid enough, but aside from the guitar that maintains a strong presence, the rest of the mix blends in together a little too much, robbing the track of some starch and punch that would definitely make it a winner.
As it is, the song meanders at a laborious pace, whereas it should be slapping you in the face with subject matter like this. All of the elements are there, they just need to be heard and defined.
Just after the two-minute mark, the band tries a brave breakdown piece, slowing things right down and adding string elements, and it works beautifully until going back to the same formula that has held the song back.
Everything about the track is great, it just needs to be highlighted more collectively and individually. I would definitely love to hear this mixed with a more anarchistic viewpoint. It’s got balls, they just haven’t dropped yet.
