GROOVER Review: LOST WEEKEND ‘Shadow’

Swedish Stockholm-based rock project Lost Weekend is actually the brainchild of one man, Michael Berman, who has decided to pool his own talents to release a body of music he hopes will resonate with others.

Lost Weekend released their new single Shadow on the last day of 2023, described as a song with a darker vibe influenced by Nine Inch Nails.

Starting with an elongated tasty, fuzzy guitar riff, the track pulls back from the initial outburst, with a calming, steady drum pattern finding the song’s groove.

It is definitely in the vein of Nine Inch Nails in the fashion it survives on the back of a swirling and even musical score that doesn’t really go anywhere – which seems to be just the point here.

Music doesn’t have to ebb and flow. Instead, it can exist on a singular sonic plane without the need for massive breakdowns and the sort.

Towards the three-minute mark, a clever, soaring guitar solo pierces the track before it subsides back into its own rolling formula of content before an abrupt ending brings things to a close, leaving a feeling of almost unfinished business that is a nice touch when wanting people to dive deeper into your music.
