GROOVER Review: J.E.E.W ‘What’s In The Bamboo?’

Share This:

I already like this track What’s In The Bamboo? from rock outfit J.E.E.W just on the basis of their opening line in the press release.

The melting pot of modern rock, blues and jazz.” Now we’re talking…

The gentle strumming of guitar introduces us to the track, with a measured tempo carrying us off on a whimsical journey powered by the sweet sounds of rock.

It’s a cool guitar tone and riff that rolls in nicely with the soothing vocals that for some reason keep asking the question of what is in the bamboo?

Fuck knows, but if it inspires the band to write music like this, then they should double the dose!

It’s a shuffling and groovy track with as many empty pockets of solitude as there are musical notes. You can almost feel the flames of the campfire licking your ankles as J.E.E.W hold centre court with a commanding presence despite the placid nature of the music.

It doesn’t really do much out of the ordinary, but, and I’m sure there are many in the modern age who don’t know or agree with this, music shouldn’t have to. It doesn’t need chops and breakdowns and timing and tempo changes to have effect.

Sometimes you just need the music, a point not lost on J.E.E.W.
