Just by reading what little there is on offer about this band and song, there’s two main things that are somehow drawing me towards it.
The band name – Goatstradamous – and the mention of the following influences – Ozzy, Dio, Priest, Scorpions and Sabbath.
The track is called Hammerspark, and it ignites in much the same fashion, guitars, drums and bass all set free in one glorious opening. The old-school feel is clearly evident even at this early stage, but when the vocals kick in you can hear the above combined influences but with enough originality to elevate the song into a slab of rock in its own right.
It’s very guitar-driven without being overly dominant, with a tried and true chorus style complete with fat, meaty hooks. A tasty guitar solo rips around the two-minute mark before settling back into groove.
This music isn’t breaking new ground by any means, but what Goatstradamous have done is put a modern spin on classic rock to make it their own. Which is never an easy thing to do.
