GROOVER Review: CUTTERRED FLESH ‘Amanda’

Share This:

Hailing from the Czech Republic, death metal outfit Cutterred Flesh have been plying their trade since 2001, releasing a stack of music and playing at some of the most prestigious metal festivals such as Brutal Assault and Obscene Extreme.

But such is the abundance of music in the modern age of metal that this is the first time we here at HEAVY have been formally introduced in the form of the band’s new single Amanda, which is lifted from Cuttered Flesh’s upcoming sixth album Love At First Bite!, scheduled for global assault early in 2024.

The track starts in brutal fashion, with vocalist Jiri Krs quickly announcing his intent after a decimating onslaught from the twin guitars of Vitali Novak and David Krombholz and insane drumming from Jakub Bayer.

It is definitely not for the weak at heart, violently pulverizing in sustained moments of destruction that are somehow strangely alluring.

There’s so much going on here, but none of it feels forced or elongated. Instead, Cutterred Flesh have painted a sonic landscape void of hope, bordering on annihilation even. But what’s more, they have forced you to take that journey with them with an unrelenting, chaotic wave of sustained contempt that few bands of this genre can manage to negotiate.

Hell, I’m not even a massive fan of such brutality in my music, but this is pure bliss.

If you can equate being sonically violated with bliss.
