GRAU was founded in Saarbruecken (Germany) in 2014 by M. (guitars/vocals) and K. (bass/vocals).
The band operated as three-piece at the beginning but later grew with different drummers and guitarists. The first release “Transzendenz” was recorded and released in 2016 which gained the band recognition in the local underground as well as gigs in Germany and Luxemburg. In 2021, M.B. (guitars) and R. (bass) joined with C.R. as a drummer from 2021 until 2023. GRAU incorporates elements of both black and death metal into their music and uses several vocalists in order to create their own unique style of extreme metal.
The title of their 2023 album “Abseits des Lichts” – which was recorded, mixed and mastered by Felix Rößger@Gin’fused Sounds Studio – roughly translates to “outside of the light”. It describes the lyrical approach of the songs that deal with pain, emptiness and the animalistic aspect of the human mind. Regarding their music, GRAU has taken a more modern and complex approach since their last release and covers the complete range from sinister doom parts to mid-tempo grooves and shredding blast beats.
