Going Through The Motions With MOTIONLESS IN WHITE

This is the year that is likely to see Motionless In White go to a whole new level. Their last album, Graveyard Shift, topped charts right around the world, now they are set to release their brand new album Disguise on June 7th while they will also spend the year touring with the likes of Atreyu, Alice Cooper and Halestorm.
With so much going on HEAVY Mag roped in the main man, Chris Motionless, to find out what exactly is happening in the world of Motionless In White.

“For us, and for me, I think a majority of our albums and a majority of songs on each album are heavily influenced by personal experiences and personal motivation,” he explains as we start to talk about what the band’s influences were for Disguise. “They are really just about what has been going on at that time with the band or for us personally. So this has album has been inspired, somewhat badly inspired, by the misfortune of dealing with several mental health issues for myself and some of the other guys in the band. We’ve had some rough patches with the band over the past year and a half so we have just really tried to write about whatever has been going on and just try to be as honest as possible. You can give or take a couple of songs that are just fun songs and they have nothing to do with the rest of them, but a majority of the songs are about us – that is what works for us and what we really like to do with our music.”

“That is exactly it,” he says when I ask whether writing music is like writing a journal for him. “When I got into music I got into really listening to music, when I was much younger, because this kind of music spoke to me in a multitude of ways –whether it was feeling the anger, the emotion, the energy, the happiness, the sadness or whatever it was that was great, but when you have a vocalist that is singing lyrics that completely relate to your life and experiences it is just a unique experience and that can really help you deal with life in a different way and you can look at yourself in a different way. When I discovered that was the power of music as a listener that was what made me decide that was what I wanted to do as an artist – create it – and here I am, thankfully.”
